Understanding The Silent War

18 October 2019

The author examines Russian cyber warfare capabilities and their underestimated significance in Georgia. He argues that cyber operations represent a fundamental shift in global security: cyber capabilities are mostly hidden and can be used by anybody, and are thus more dangerous than traditional weapons.

The work traces how Russia and the United States transitioned from nuclear powers to cyber powers, introducing the concept of fifth-dimensional warfare โ€” the silent war โ€” and contextualises contemporary cyber threats within evolving security landscapes, moving beyond traditional concerns like terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.
